Twidroyd app suspended by Twitter

The popular series of Twitter apps we know as Twidroyd on Android have ceased to work today, following a rather aggressive move by Twitter to limit the apps ability to access its service. If you use Twidroyd on Android it will be broken right now and it’s not a problem with you or your phone.

Today we suspended several apps, including UberTwitter, twidroyd and UberCurrent, which have violated Twitter policies and trademarks in a variety of ways. These violations include, but aren’t limited to, a privacy issue with private Direct Messages longer than 140 characters, trademark infringement, and changing the content of users’ Tweets in order to make money.

The app is still available for installation via the Android Market listing, so it’s not been totally shut down – while Twidroyd itself says “the changes we need to make are small and we fully expect to be back online shortly”.
