Nokia Microsoft Strategic Partnership

Nokia and Microsoft have created what their respective CEOs are calling a broad strategic partnership. Bing will become the primary search engine on Nokia devices and services. Nokia mapping technology will become part of Microsoft mobile offerings. Both companies will collaborate on development and marketing of mobile products.
The alliance of two of this snapper vendors reap considerable skepticism. Nokia shares had tumbled after the announcement of its Nokia partnership with Microsoft. But Ballmer claimed the entry of Nokia to Microsofts mobile platform is good news for operators, developers and consumer.
The deal sparked speculation that the company will soon be abandoning its in-house proprietary Symbian platform. As a result, some employees of Nokia working on Symbian may soon be let go. Nokia CEO Stephen Elop announced that the Finnish phone giant will be making the Nokia Microsoft developed Windows Phone mobile operating system the main platform for its high-end smartphones.
Actually, the argument could be won on the strength of that third point alone, given that Android is now the second-most popular smartphone operating system, with 22.7 percent of the world market in 2010. If current trends continue, those numbers will only grow in the years come to Nokia Microsoft.
