Tuesday, 8 Mar, 2011 – 7:30 | No Comment

MeeGo has announced that it will release Meego 1.2 Developer Edition for Nokia N900. It will be a version for developers to start working with it, with some important functions. Flashed with this edition N900 will be usable as a primary phone device for a developer/hacker person. This will not be something for regular end users.

The focus is on meeting the non-functional targets (such as performance) rather than number of features. This will hopefully encourage more people to use MeeGo on N900, and continue enhancing the functionality or build new stuff.

The Maemo operating system on Nokia N900 does not yet have official support for Java, but thanks to lcedtea6 and Microemulator apps we can run any Java app on our N900. MicroEmu is a pure Java implementation of Java ME. MicroEmu is licensed under LGPL and major parts under Apache License as well. Since then, a lot of work has been done to make this tool even better and support more and more different Java ME applications and games. I’ve got a lot of positive feedback as well which also helped improving quality of this project.

Personally i don’t like install .deb files, but if you are very interested in prove fMMS is a risk that you can run or wait it in Extra-Devel.

The Maemo operating system on Nokia N900 will not support for MMS (multimedia messaging), a tool that some users in their terminals. But that is increasingly being used less because it has become something useless if we have a plan of data or sending photos. By the way this recent smartphones range medium-high which have been launched to the market, as is the Nokia N900, do not include this tool.
